Scope
The scope of the workshop includes thermal-hydraulic aspects of innovative nuclear systems. In particular, the workshop covers (but is not restricted to) the following topics:
- Cross-cutting aspects for nuclear systems (dedicated lectures):
- proposals from the Work Package leaders of the EU FP7 THINS project are encouraged.
- Fundamental research in thermal-hydraulics:
- specific features of thermal-hydraulics for nuclear applications;
- recent advances and future needs on turbulent flow and heat transfer modeling;
- heat transfer and flow stability at natural circulation and buoyancy-influenced flow conditions of various coolants;
- multi-phase flow and heat transfer at conditions specific to innovative nuclear systems.
- Status and development of numerical tools:
- requirements on numerical analysis tools;
- recent advances in new model development for numerical thermal-hydraulics simulation tools;
- application, benchmark and improvement needs of numerical tools;
- coupled numerical analysis of multi-scale, multi-physical phenomena;
- qualification methodology and licensing issues of numerical tools.
- Experimental verification and validation studies:
- requirements on data bases for verification and validation purposes;
- status and future needs of experimental verification facilities;
- requirements on advanced measurement techniques.
- Approaches for enhanced international cooperation:
- needs of training and education in innovative thermal-hydraulics;
- approaches to coordinated research activities.
Invited lectures from prominent scientists in the nuclear research community are also foreseen.
